MISS UNITED STATES & RELAY FOR LIFE PARTNERSHIP
MISS MARYLAND UNITED STATES PRESENTS $500 GIFT TO RELAY FOR LIFE
Columbia, MD, June 5, 2014 – The Miss Maryland United States Organization will present a gift of $500 to the Relay for Life of Howard County during activities on Friday, June 6 in Columbia. Funds were raised through the “People’s Choice” vote during the 2014 Miss Maryland United States Pageant this past February.
The Miss United States Organization calls Relay for Life its official charitable partner and encourages each state chapter to get involved. A division of the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life is typically held through schools. Relays include an overnight community fundraising walk, food, and other entertainment. On Friday, June 6, the Relay for Life of Howard County will take place at 6:00pm at Long Reach High School, 6101 Old Dobbin Lane, Columbia, Maryland. Participants will walk through the night.
Queens participating in opening ceremonies include Miss Maryland United States Amanda Ross, Ms. Maryland United States Shenetta Malkia, Miss Teen Maryland United States Amber Smith and Miss Pre-Teen Maryland United States Coral Linzey. The organization has invited the lead fund raisers from the February pageant including Stormy Knowles, Stephanie Brown, and Aynia Dorsey.
“Relay for Life is a great affiliation for the Miss United States Organization,” said Maryland state director Laura Clark. “It helps to unite our youth and make them more aware of a disease that affects each of us. It’s an honor to present this gift to such a worthwhile organization right here in our own community.”
In addition to Relay for Life, Maryland titleholders support their own charitable interests and a variety of social or fashion events. From July 1-6, titleholders will represent Maryland at the 2014 Miss United States Pageant in Washington, DC. The ladies were selected based on interview, modeling and professionalism, and will serve in their titles for one calendar year. Approximately 50 contestants competed for the six titles.
